2025 TRACK AND FIELD MEET RECAPS:
WOLVES WIN COMBINED TITLE AT ICEBREAKER INVITATIONAL
ROOS BREAKS HISTORIC RECORD
Sally Roos broke one of Eastlake’s oldest track and field records serendipitously on the Issaquah High school track where her mom, Julie Roos once starred. Competing in arguably the toughest 1600m race in the region which featured some of the top runners in the state, Roos ran an exceptional 4:47.9 to place 3rd and break Jessica Pixler’s 19-year-old record. Pixler went on to win 12 NCAA titles for Seattle Pacific University and the University of Colorado and also ran professionally for Brooks and Nike, ultimately making the finals of 2016 Olympic 5K trials. Roos, the future Utah State Aggie, continued to impress throughout the meet by winning the 800 in a state leading time of 2:12.73, which is also 4th all time for the Wolves. To top off the historic day she ran the second leg on the winning 4x400m relay with teammates Aubrey Wilems, Jane Roos and Anna Schneidler in the time of 4:04.2 which is currently the second fastest in the 4A standings.
Schneidler also contributed major points to Eastlake’s combined girls and boys win in the meet that featured 25 teams. After setting the school record only two days prior in the 300m hurdles, she wowed the crowd again by winning the event in dominant fashion, breaking her own record in the process. Her time of 44.02 is the top time in the state. In addition to anchoring the winning 4x400m team, she also placed 5th in the 100m hurdles and anchored the 4th place 4x100m relay along with teammates Maya Brand, Erin Harris, and Maddy.
Addison Kapur broke the 3rd school record of the day with her winning 143-01 javelin throw. The mark was an impressive 7-inch improvement over her previous school record mark of 136-00. The future UC Santa Barbara Gaucho was runner-up in last year’s state meet and currently has the top 4A throw.

2024 TRACK & FIELD MEET RECAPS:
EASTLAKE BOYS WIN STATE TITLE
SECRIST AND SCHNEIDLER CROWNED STATE CHAMPIONS
In 1997 the newly opened Eastlake High School shocked the Washington state track world when the boys team defeated 5-time team champion Mead in the state track and field meet. In fact, the Wolves coach at the time, Bo McNair, was preemptively offered a pen commemorating the imminent win by the Mead coach, but politely turned it down knowing that EHS had already won. Fast forward 27 years to the 2024 boys track and field squad that just competed in the state meet that was held May 23-25 at Mt Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Similarly, today’s Wolves were not on anyone’s radar to win, including the current coaching staff who felt that after having the school record 4x100m team disqualified in the district meet and losing both the KingCo and district title to Issaquah that a third-place finish might be the best that the team could do. But defying everyone’s expectations the boys came through and for only the second time in school history won the State Track and Field Championship, defeating the nearest competitor Central Valley 46-38. The girls’ team also competed well and just missed a trophy as they placed 5th overall.
During the course of the three-day meet, Matt Secrist and Anna Schneidler joined the exclusive club of individual state track and field champions at Eastlake. Secrist courageously fought back after falling behind to win the 300m hurdles (38.88), while Schneidler, only a freshman, led from start to finish, battling significant wind to win the 400m in 56.22. The duo are only the 4thand 5th student athletes to win individual state titles. Two of coach Mike Pool’s pole vaulters have won, with Ellie Talius claiming the gold in 2017 and Bowman Starr winning in 2019. Jessica Pixler, who was coached by Troy and Jody Anderson, won the 800m in 2006. Additionally, one relay team, the 2014 4x400m squad, which included Troy Lewis, Drew Lewis, Matt Morrison, and Nathan Pixler, was victorious.
In addition to winning the 300m hurdles, Secrist placed 2nd in the 110’s, missing the win by only a tenth of a second. His time of 14.40 lowers his non-wind aided school record.
Senior Mason Heisser who scored 14 individual points for the Wolves, was a huge reason that the team won. He placed 2nd in the long jump, breaking his own school record with a 22-06.5 mark and then went on to place 3rd in the triple jump with a 44-07.75 effort. Heisser will leave Eastlake as the best horizontal jumper in Wolves history, holding both the long and triple jump records. He is also 4th all time for the high jump.
Senior Connor Hom added more points for Eastlake by placing 3rd in the 1600m (4:16.75) and 7th in the 800m (1:56.97). Hom was unfortunately tripped in the 800m going into the last straight away where he was leading the pack. Thankfully, his career is not over as he will run cross country and track next year for Yale. He leaves Eastlake as the number 2 all time in both the 800m and the 1600m.
Senior Harry McHugh ended his high school career on a positive note by placing 6th in the 200m in a time of 22.69. McHugh will continue sprinting next year for Everett Community College while attending Fire Fighter’s Academy. He leaves EHS as a member of the school record holding 4x100m team and is number two all time in the 200m and 6th in the 100m.
The last Wolf to chip in points for the boy’s win was junior Eli Yoon who placed 6th in the 800m (1:58.54) Yoon had a break-out year and ends his season number 6 all time in the 800m and 8th all-time in the 1600m.
On the girl’s side junior Addison Kapur saved the best for last. On her final throw in the javelin competition, Kapur moved up two positions to claim silver. Kapur broke her own school record with her 136-00 mark.
Sally and Jane Roos both made the podium in the 800m with Sally placing 3rd (2:14) and Jane placing 6th (2:15.4). In the prelims Jane set a new personal record with a 2:12.74 clocking. She is now number four all time in that event for Eastlake.
Peyton Glennon-Robbins, who set the school record in the 100m earlier in the season, made it to the finals and placed 5th in that event for a podium spot.
In addition to her 400m win, Schneidler was a part of two relays that podiumed at state by placing 5th in both. In the 4x100m she combined with Glennon-Robbins, Katie Bradford, and Erin Harris (49.62) and in the 4x400m with the Roos sisters and Milena Dancsha’zy. (4:01.27)
Discus thrower Azadeh Teague, who set the school record earlier in the season was also a point scorer for the Wolves by placing 8th with a 116-07 toss.
Congratulations to the Eastlake Track and Field Coaching Staff on this historic achievement!
